Ancestral Secrets. Keepers of Indigenous Medicine, Ep. 01 - In the Heights of the Andes Mountains
(En las alturas de la Coordillera de Los Andes)
Jota Loyola Crovetto | Documentary
2021 | 53 minutes | Chile, Colombia
High in the Andes, Q’eros and Aymara communities reveal sacred pilgrimages and rituals once hidden since the fall of the Incas.
Synopsis
In southern Latin America, high in the Andes, a secret has been guarded for centuries. Medicinal practices cultivated by communities that inherited ancestral knowledge unknown to the modern world. The Q’eros Nation of Peru retreated here to protect the ancient knowledge of the Incas after it was threatened by the Spanish Conquest.
In Bolivia, descendants of the Aymara community have settled in the heights of La Paz. Edmundo Pacheco crosses the Andean pampas to reach the land of Tata Bombori. “La Fiesta del Rayo,” never filmed before, is revealed: a ceremony of animal sacrifice, fire, offerings, and atonement.
Series Description
Twelve Indigenous communities across the Americas open the doors to medicinal rituals they have kept secret for centuries. They share sacred knowledge that, unlike the modern pharmaceutical industry, does not seek to cure disease but to preserve health.
This series offers a provocative perspective on nature, medicine, trance, and our understanding of well-being.
